Dear Mr. President
Denver DEA Special Agent in Charge, Jeffrey Sweetin says "Technically, every dispensary in the State [Colorado] is in blatant violation of federal law." "The time is coming when we go into a dispensary, we find out what their profit is, we seize the building, and we arrest everybody. They're violating federal law; they're at risk of arrest and imprisonment." [per AP, Denver Post, and the Boulder Daily Camera, pg. 1 , 2/14/2010].
This is in direct contradiction to your campaign promise, your "Holder Memo," and the Colorado State Constitution. This hypocrisy is not the government behavior that we demand of our elected leaders. A bit of consistent honesty should be a reasonable voter expectation.
SAC Sweetin has forgotten for whom he works, and requires an appropriate public reminder, whether that is a transfer, a public reprimand or a firing. His personal, incorrect belief, that "marijuana is not medicine" is ill-informed, and irrelevant to his job description, unless he insists on bringing his personal unscientific bias into his job, blatantly disregarding his office, his chain of command, and the Constitutions of Colorado and of the United States. As a part of the Executive Branch of our government, I believe that he works for you, Sir.
Thank you for your time and happy Valentine's Day.

Colorado DEA Sweetin Must Be Disciplined Immediately and Publicly - Frieling
Responding to news reports from Colorado regarding the DEA's attempts to shut down medical marijuana dispensaries that are legal under Colorado state law and especially to the comments from Denver's DEA Special Agent in Charge, Jeffrey Sweetin (who appears to have a history of inappropriate actions when it comes to marijuana policy), Leonard Frieling, a LEAP speaker, sent the following letter to President Obama yesterday. It is posted with his permission. He encourages others to express their concerns as well.

Saw this coming unfortunately. The legalizing medical end wasn't handled as well as it could have been. The list of conditions that allow a patient access are too narrow and if a citizen of Colorado wants access to medical mj in Colorado they must go before a panel. Last I heard the panel turned down a man with Parkinsons because of lack of medical proof.
ReplyDeleteWith that said this man is going after seriously ill people with his stance. This is a name that should be burned into the forehead of all activitists in Colorado.
Where's Jessica Cory on this I wonder.
Great letter, hopefully it will raise some eyebrows and bring about more concrete statements from the President. (although I doubt it).
The ego within mankind is a dangerous thing if not properly monitored. This is the crossroads we find ourselves at really, on a personal level and as a collective level.

ReplyDeleteWay to go Leonard! Any response?
ReplyDeleteJeffrey Sweetin says "Technically, every dispensary in the State [Colorado] is in blatant violation of federal law."
Technically, the illegal, immoral, illogical, unconstitutional, un-Biblical EVIL RELIGION OF HATE against marijuana is a blatant violation of the Laws of the Universe. Which is why they 1) are failing 2) will never succeed in their goals. Which is greater, the Universe or a bunch of self-righteous thug addicts?
"The time is coming when we go into a dispensary, we find out what their profit is, we seize the building, and we arrest everybody."
The time is coming when all those who manufactured shame that should not ever have existed in the first place, all those who are drunk lording their evil and misguided authority over others, especially those who think it's God's will for us to force our human wills on others, will find out they are 100% wrong.
Malachi says that the time is coming when all those who do not belong in prison will be released, and they will dance with joy on the ashes of those who persecuted them. [Malachi 4]
MJ patients do no currently have to go before a panel to become legal. That may be coming in the future for select applicants, but it is not here yet.
